ROADTRIP!
Everyone at some point has tinkered with the idea of leaving everything behind,
hopping in a car and seeing what sights America has to offer -- but few follow through. We’re taking this idea, but subtracting two wheels!
We’re setting off on a 5000 mile self-guided, unassisted cross-country bike trip to raise money for a UMass scholarship fund to give back to members of our school community. After having had great opportunities available to us at UMass, both academic and extracurricular, we are looking to give another deserving student the chance to experience life in college. Both of us are members of the UMass Women's Division I Rowing team, and through UMass Athletics, were inducted into the National College-Athlete Honor Society: Chi Alpha Sigma. It is through the UMass chapter of this society that we are aiming to raise a full semester's in-state tuition to UMass for a deserving student with financial need. With a recent fees and tuition hike, in-state costs (without room and board) have risen to $11,732 for the 2010-2011 year and a whopping $23,628 for out-of-staters making that much more important to raise scholarship funds.
Help us pay-it-forward and give someone else a chance at the college experience!
